I agree with Todd's point about any rescue dog. Try to find out background. These dogs can be terrific. Just to let you know, I have 2 Poodles and 2 Pekes. I just got my newest addition a week ago and things are going very well. Yes, there is a bit of growling, but I am used to that an know it will stop as soon as the new baby knows his place in the pack. Good luck. I hope the rescue works out for you. These little guys are terrific (as are Pugs).
