I have a pekingese puppy and my sister in law has an 8 months old baby and my puppy is gentle with kendra and lets her pet her and everything. Pekingese aren't mean dogs, it's really in all the way you train them. If you don't teach them to be mean and don't rough them around they won't get mean(that's what i done with my puppy ) , but if you do they will probably get mean. They can tolerate small kids, because my puppy will be a year this month and and she can handle them/
