However, a darling Pekingese arrived just today, someone had to give up, a 1 year old male. Would this make any sense? And do Pekingese mind spending their days outside (I'd prefer not to keep any dog closed up if I'm out for a long day). Also, have two cats. How are these dogs with cats?

I have a 5 year old Peke and about a year ago we found out that he had Hip dysplasia. We heard that this is common among small dogs and has something to do with in-breeding. We were told not to take him on long walks because it might hurt him. i don't know if this will be a problem for you but you might want to check it out. As for the cats, I've read that they are very loyal and jealous. you must pay equal attention to each. otherwise the dog might develop some problems.
