Jodi<' Hi. I have owned and loved pekingnese. These dogs have their problems. back problems, especially, haunt this breed. Preventatives include good vet care, keeping them off the stairs, swimming is helpful, especially when they get older. My female, amanda, exercised by swimming laps in the bathtub 3 times a week. It was like going to the gym for her. We also had a chiropractor that adjusted her. She lived till over 16. Breathing problems are issue for dogs and their owners. They shed. Not a good pet for ashma patients. They can be fiecely loyal to the children in a hone. If someone approached the baby carriage they were in for a suprise, especially if she had cuddled up under the blanket with the baby. One false move and the tranger was in for her wrath. So consider the possiblity of bringing a peke into your home carefully. Hope this perdsonal informaion helps.
