Peke's are not famous for their activity levels. They are not lazy or anything like that, but for hiking you may want to consider a sporting breed of dog. I love my peke. Walks to the store or araound the neighborhood are great fun. He also loves to go in the car. Most animals are as socialbe as we make them. If you expose you Peke to people and other animals (cats or dogs) they will be more willing to get along and except them. A year old is a very young Peke and still very trainable.
