I have two Pekes---one is 7 and the other is 13 years old. I never had any eye problems until 2 years ago with the older "pup". Her eye ulcerated and required a surgical procedure in order to prevent the eye from having to be removed! The vet sewed a flap of tissue right onto the eye and over the ulceration. It's very similar to a permanent "Band-aid". Unfortunately, this dog was diagnosed at the same time as having glaucoma---but only in this one eye. She takes medication orally 3 times a day, in addition to having drops put in her bad eye twice daily. On top of all this, she ended up being blind in this eye following her surgery. She was quite ill for some time after this entire affair all began. However, a couple months after her operation, she was back to her old happy and playful self---completely adjusted to her partial blindness, new (and VERY restrictive) diet due to the glaucoma, and to taking all the unpleasant medications. This has been quite an expensive process---and I sometimes wonder if I should have simply had the veterinarian remove this "bad" eye!! I just hope that her good eye remains just that: GOOD---and that my other Peke does not have any eye problems!!! Good luck with your pup.
