I don't know if this will help you very much, but I can tell you about some experiences that are applicable to your situation. Romeo, my peke that lives with my parents, is an outside dog and he loves it. He gets his hair cut each summer so he won't get too hot. (We're in Texas.) Romeo's "best friend" is a neighborhood cat whom he carries around by the nape of her neck. They also share his dog house when it gets cold. My husband and I recently got a kitten, and Penelope, our Peke who is an inside dog, is getting along great with her so far.>
