The Reception

The Reception
Reception: Columbia American Legion Hall
Columbia, Illinois
Colors: Black, Red, and Ivory Main Flower: Red Roses
People Invited: Over 600 Guests in Attendance: 401
First Dance: Keeper of the Stars by Tracy Byrd

The reception was a lot of fun! Guests arrived immediately after the wedding, around 4:45 p.m., and we arrived after photos at 6 p.m. The partying continued until well-after midnight! We did most of the decorations ourselves, with a LOT of help from Andrea's family. It's amazing what can be done with balloons, red, blank, and silver ribbons, candles, and a lot of patience getting it all put up.

Music was provided by more family members. Andrea's Uncle Chip plays in a Country & Western band and took care of the music. Andrea's father sang our first dance, Keeper of the Stars by Tracy Byrd, and part of the father-daughter dance, Daddy's Little Girl. Andrea even got into the act, and sang "When You Say Nothing At All" to Todd.

The Cake

We got lots of compilments on our wedding cake. The topper is actually a music box. Each cake had fresh flowers circling the base provided by our florist. Probably the most amazing thing was that after one year in a freezer, the topmost cake, saved for us, was still good! They say that yellow cakes stay the longest (which ours was), and it proved to be true!

Bill paying off Todd

During the bouquet & garter toss, our mutual friend, Bill Vavrik, attempted to pay Todd for the honor of removing the garter. He even tried the Visa Gold Card, but to no avail. He was not to be denied the garter however, and with a vertical leap of about 2 inches (see the photo at the top of the page) he snatched it out of the air. This was typical of the fun we, and all our guests had at the reception.
