Hi Helen. My family has had pekes for years and I have never encountered this problem. However, a vet I knew told me that this can happen and his attitude suggested it was indeed common. If you have faith in your vet I'd go w/ that and get as much info from others as you can. Enjoy your pekes and wish I could have been more helpful.
