Hi Norman & Elena-
I'll first give you the response that I'm sure you'll receive from many
breeders. I am not a breeder, but I've seen the question answered
enough to know the response. You should only be breeding dogs for the
betterment of the breed, i.e. producing show quality dogs of proper
lineage. Breeding pekes just to bring more puppies into the world
really shouldn't be done. I don't mean to sound harsh, but there are
too many dogs in need of adoption already.

Now, this is not to say you two should not become breeders. It sounds
like your pekes are your livelihood, and that you might be interested
in becoming a breeder of show quality dogs. It is a significant
investment however. My suggestion is to get in touch with a pekingese
club in your area and speak to some of their breeders about what it
takes to get started. Be forewarned, that just like any other business
there are polite, helpful breeders, and impolite, unhelpful breeders.
Depending on who you call, you may get totally different responses.

As for the cost of a pekingese, a dog of show-quality lineage that
could not be shown for some reason can easily run US $350 or more.

Good luck!
