The hair is trimmed about every 6 weeks. The paws are shaved. The hair is kept to a length that you would like. To me it depends on what type of weather one has where one lives. Also there are certain standards if the dog is a show dog. The dog will get knots in her fur if she is not taken to a doggy parlour. I feel a doggy parlour should know how to trim a pekingnese. Also their nails are cut. I have found pictures of pekingneses on the internet. Look under the intelligence of dogs and it shows a beautiful picture of a pekingnese. I don't think it makes any difference whether a peke is male or female in the way the hair is cut. Also the doggy parlour should cut the hair around the anus so one does not sit with a stinky bottom. Pekingneses are so low to the ground that they are inclined to get faeces stuck to their backsides. I hope this helps.
