Apparently Pekingneses are inclined to be born with hernias. One of my 8 week old pups has a small umbilical hernia. If it does not improve, he will be operated on when he is 6 months old. In my case there is not a danger of his intestines becoming strangulated. If you have a good vet then I would go with what he/she says.
