> On Sunday our beloved pekinese died suddenly. There are no words to discribe our sadness. Although we know that nothing can replace our loss, we also know that our home is empty without a little pal to brighten our days. I have always felt that when purchasing a pup, the younger the better was a good rule to follow, especially as we are hoping to find a peke who will enjoy cuddling and lots of attention. Others have told me that in choosing the right match, age should not be a major consideration. Still, I wonder if the bonding will be the same. We will be looking at a 10 month old pup who has been raised with a litter mate and his mom. I don't believe he is housebroken. Any ideas and/or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Pekes are a people-oriented breed. They prefer your company to other dogs. (I know, I have six!) Anyway, I just purchased a three-year-old about four months ago. Constant attention, affection and love will bring them around in a matter of about two days. I wouldn't say that mine was abused by its former owner, but a child was in the home and he was treated too roughly. He didn't like having his tail touched, so I play a game with him called, "I'll get that tail." I playfully reach for his tail and he playfully bites and barks with glee. He allows me to groom his tail now.
