When you bought your Peke, did you get the chance to meet the parents and or grandparents?? From what I understand, 14 lbs is the maximum weight for show quality, but I have seen very large Pekes 20 lbs + that were not really overweight, they were just quite large. This is important to determine with your vet, because you may not want to put a larger Peke on a diet to get weight down when he or she was biologically bred that size. It is important to know your breeder, contact them and ask how large the parents are. I am experiencing the same questions at the opposite end, our male Peke is quite small, and his parents and grandparents are between 10 and 13 lbs, but the breeder has documented several offspring under 10 lbs. I am curious to find out if he will stay small, or "catch up" with his siblings. Good luck!
