> Hi, I hope that everyone reading this learns a lot about fleas and even more about " safer alternatives to flea control " FIRST.. dehydrating fleas is the easiest, safest, non hazardous solution to flea infestation in the home. This can be achieved by dusting DIATOMACEOUS
EARTH " NOT BORIC ACID POWDER " < i,e Fleabusters > on your carpeting
and under cushions etc. Diatomaceous earth .... is crushed fossil shells and available thru any organic catalog. It is not damaging to carpets, furniture, pets or you ! Boric acid is Hazardous to all and should be used only as a crack & crevice poison that is NEVER LEFT OUT
IN THE OPEN FOR CHILDREN & PETS TO CONTACT ! Fleas lay eggs <1000 +>
all over the carpets, furniture, windowsills, curtains & baseboards. If you take a spray bottle and mist over the black droppings that most likely are covering your baseboards, windowsills, etc you'll no doubt find black drops that turn red/brown and start to streak. These are what most people call FLEA DIRT. Well they're much more than that. The drops are food for the next stage of flea development called larva.Without that "flea dirt" the larva has a harder time surviving to the next developmental stage. So grab a water bottle & get started misting over those basebords etc and clean up the food source. The next stage of flea development is the pupa or COCOON. The flea is COMPLETLY RESISTENT TO CONVENTIONAL POISONS SO BOMBING & SPRAYING IS FUTILE.....
THE COCOON STAGE CAN LAST 1 FULL YEAR ! When the flea emerges from the cocoon it seeks out it's first blood meal and proceeds to lay eggs !.
HOW TO PREVENT RE-INFESTATION..................................
FIRST....Clean up your house

SECOND.....A table lamp placed on the floor..switched on will attract fleas to it........place a pie pan or lasagna dish filled 1/2 way with water and 3-5 drops of dish soap... next to the lamp......
leave the room for a few hours and check the pan later.........You'll find drowned fleas in the pan because fleas..like other insects...are attracted to light. They fall accidently into the water while jumping around light......Don't want to use the light ? Go to hardware store & purchase flea traps which are night lights with fly paper...same idea.
THIRD......Bathe your dog with tear free baby shampoo.
< Any Soap will kill a flea...remember the pan ? >
Baby shampoo is gentle...and you can wash the face without hurting the eyes..we suggest a wash cloth dipped into the soapy water.
FOURTH....Organic repellents...they don't kill fleas...they make the flea & tick want to get off the pet..........
you'll find these at petsmart....walmart....etc
Look for labels that say " alternative to pesticides "
You'll find them right next to the flea poisins
FIFTH.....Outdoor treatments...
...Nematodes......microscopic worms that seek out flea, tick, japanese beetle, termites, any insect with a larva stage. You can purchase these from organic catalogs or feed & seed stores. You apply these with a hose end sprayer and they will keep your yard balanced. THESE NEMATODES ARE NOT THE KIND THAT EAT VEGETATION. THEY ARE BENEFICIAL NEMATODES.
....Diatomaceous earth.....lokk it up in the organic catalogs.
SIXTH.......diet....give your pet good food including brewers yeast which is great for the vitamin content and a wonderful healthy coat.
SEVENTH.....VACUUM DAILY .....
EIGHTH......DAILY BRUSH/FLEA COMB
NINTH...Program ..is a birth control pill for fleas..so giving your dog or cat a birth control pill doesn't help the current flea population get off your pet.
Advantage ..is a termite poison as well as a flea poison.
Look up Bayer's web site for info on other
uses for "Imidacloprid"
Frontline....is an ant & roach poison as well as a flea poison. Look up Maxforce web site for info on other uses for "Fipronil"
Pyrithrum..is a derivative of chrysanthumums
Pyrithrin...is a synthetic reproduction and 0.04% is the
recommended maximum strength for cats...anything over that is potentially toxic.
TENTH....NEVER MIX DIFFERENT POISONS TOGETHER..ITS LIKE MIXING BLEACH & AMMONIA......YOUR PETS ARE COUNTING ON YOU TO READ THE LABELS. Hope this helps.........
