Ohhhhh my god, i'm in love!!! got a peke puppy the day before yesterday (from a pet store)....wanted one from a breeder but none in were available and i called several breeders...got this one coz i teach and wanted to spend the summer house/crate training her. she is a GREAT puppy...QUIET, stays in her crate w/o problem,,,minute i take her outside she does her business (BELIEVE IT OR NOT!!!) and she's learning to mouth her bones and chew toys, not fingers/toes =) My kids love her. Problem is, she has red eyes (the whites are red) and she seems to be sneezing/snorting quite a bit, and rubbing the front of her face with her paws. It especially happens when she gets excited. Vet said it is probably kennel cough (mild version)...he put her on amoxicillian, 2xday. Also, a prescription diet to keep her weight up. She is healthy weight wise, plump enough, appetite is fair (would like to see that better), no fever, no vomiting, no diarrhea, no fleas. She's up to date on her shots. My question is this, does this SOUND like kennel cough symptoms? She is not actually COUGHING, sounds more like a sneeze or snort. Also, can she DIE from this??? I love her and don't want to take her back to the store, but I have 12 out of my fourteen days of initial guarantee left, and don't want to 'SCREW' myself out of the money i paid for her either. Please help. (AND PLEASE, NO LECTURES ABOUT WHY I SHOULDN'T HAVE PURCHASED HER FROM A PET STORE. ) It wasn't my first choice to do so, but I did...and I love her, and in my eyes she's every bit as superior as a dog I could get at a breeders....this is what LOVE is. Don't call my puppy inferior; if anything she's way ahead of some of these sheltered pups, coz she's been exposed to a lot in her travels, and has made it this far. Strong puppy girl!!!)
