I have a peke who has had 3 eye surgeries. I learned of his problems when I had only had him two weeks. His breeder said I should put him to sleep and I'd be sent another dog. I couldn't do this. My vet sent me to a veterinary opthamologist. The first surgery put stitches in the inside corners of the eyes, removed eyelashes under the lids and lazer surgery being done to one cornea. An opaque scaring had developed due to injury or infection soon after birth. The second surgery removed eyelashes under the lids that had grown back and were irritating the cornea again. This last surgery, three weeks ago, was to burn off lashes both under and on the lids that were touching the eyes. Small sections from the middle of the eyelids were removed to slightly curl the edge of the lid away from the eyes. Some stitches were removed a week ago and others are disolving. I know it's hard to put your dog through this and for you to have to go through it also, but the alternative is chronic eye problems, with other related complications, the loss of an eye(s) or possible blindness. Contact me if I can be of any support. Good luck with whatever decision you make.
