This seems to be a peke trait. I have some who never do, some who sometimes do, and some who do every time. I've always believed it is because cat poop is high in nitrogen and they need it. Some female pekes will eat poop because they are used to cleaning up after new puppies and they get the habit. I have a couple who only do it if I run out of vitamins so that would reinforce the "need it" theory. I have heard of a pill you can buy called "STOP" that causes their stools to be so foul smelling and tasting that the other dogs won't eat it. It's listed in the Thomas Pet Pharmacy catalog and their phone is 602-936-4499 or web site http://www.thomaslabs.com. I don't know if you can give it to cats--you'd have to ask Mr. Thomas. I solve my problem as much as possible by following them around with the pooper scooper.
