Try to find your Peke a cow's hoof. They are very durable and hard to "eat" like the raw hide. My Peke breeder recommended it to me. He doesn't approve of the raw hide bones either. If your worried about side effects, call your vet. They are usually very willing to answer basic questions like this one over the phone.
