I've had purebred pekes for the last 20+ years. My first was
a pet shop dog - he was healthy, but didn't have a good temperment.
My next one was from a breeder, then I bred some litters. Most of my
dogs have lived long healthy lives. Providing there's good breeding
behind your purebred, the new pups health should be fine. Can't urge
you enough to try to locate a breeder (one who shows) for your new pet.
You can also go to a dog show (check out infodog.com for a list of
upcoming shows in your area) - you can see the pekes in the ring and
maybe locate a local breeder. Good luck
