I am also considering transporting my pet by air from california to Ny, but only because she is still a puppy and is able to easily fit comfortably in a carrier that can fit under my seat- ive been told a bunch of scary stories about dogs overheating in the cargo plane while waiting to be unloaded after landing. Plus, ive been told that because of their short noses, some pug nosed dogs have trouble with the cabin pressure and cant breathe proparly, some people think sedative drugs might increase that possibility. Im not trying to scare you, just talk it over with your vet. Also, the best way to get your dog into the carrier is to put a soft blanket with your sent on it and maybe one of her favorite toys an LEAVE IT ALONE open, so that the dog can check it out on her own time. Good luck! Have a great trip!
> We are hoping to travel to the US for 6 months and bring our 4 year old peke with us. The first problem we are facing is transporting her. We went to the pet store today and checked out which size Box would be good for her. We found one but she started whineing the minute we closed the door. Our Vet said to left her get used to it before traveling, but because of this experience (from which she hasn't recovered yet) I don't think I can put the most appealing thing inside of the box, but she won't go in again! Any suggestions? My other question is..should she be put on some kind of Drugs for the 8 Hour flight? Does anyone know about the cargo room that the animals are put into? What are they like? Dark? etc.
> My vet said something about giving her a pill to sleep/make her drowsy, she has seizures and already takes phenobarital. I have also heard that there is a vet at the airport that gives the animals a shot of some kind to calm them down, what is the best thing to do or give her? I have started contemplating traveling over with my Husband just so that I don't have to put my dog thru this....
> THANKS!
