Well let me say that i did end up purchasing my dog from a petstore, but not before the manager insited on giving me the breeders name, as well as the name of a reputable vet that would give me a free first health exam to ensure my dogs health and general soundness. The vet who i went to for this exam was very nice and commented on the great puppies that have come into his office through that same petstore.

I have one pekingese dog from a pet store and one from a reputable breeder. They are both excellent dogs. I had no experience either so I just went ahead and bought two dogs. Don't let the arrogant breeders get to you because there are just as many helpful and patient ones out there as well. I'm sorry that you had a not so great experience and I hope you are happy with the pet you have now. The "Orient Express" magazine is an excellent resource for purchasing a peke through a breeder.
